17 Year Old Dies After Snowboard Accident

Posted: Updated:

Witnesses says Kasandra Knapp crashed and did several summersaults at the beginner's hill at Boyne Highlands Sunday afternoon.

It's the type of fall that happens everyday on the slopes.

But yesterday, it took the life of the friendly high school senior.

The deadly accident happened right before Boyne Highlands, in Harbor Springs, closed for the day.

Kasandra was a senior at Inland Lakes High School.

The school got word of her death around 7:30 PM, they quickly moved into their grief management plan.

The school put brought in counselors, held an assembly, set up a grief room and made memorials

When a student dies, it sends a ripple effect through their school.

Those emotions are amplified in such a small, tight knit district.

9&10's Eric Lloyd and photojournalist Tony Zyber have more details.
