MDOT Replacing Road Signs on M-22

Posted: Updated:

Signs along a popular Northern Michigan highway are getting an upgrade.

Today, MDOT began replacing road signs on the M-22 corridor which runs through Benzie, Leelanau and Manistee counties.

While most signs may look just fine to the average driver, those that are more weathered may not reflect as well at night.

That's one reason signs have to replaced every 15 years so that they are in compliance with federal safety standards and protect drivers.

The old signposts are recycled and the old concrete is removed and disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.

Overall, MDOT's sign replacement project involves over 168 miles of roads throughout Northern Lower Michigan.
