Evart Welcomes Home Kate VanMourik

Posted: Updated:

A heart warming homecoming.

A teenage girl is back in her hometown tonight -- just months after a tragic accident nearly took her life.

It's still a long road to recovery for Katelyn VanMourik.

But today, her friends, family, and entire community are celebrating her return home.

People lined the streets of Evart this afternoon to welcome her home from a downstate rehab clinic.

Back in July, Kate was riding her bike after work, when she dropped her phone in the street.

She stopped to pick it up -- and was hit by a car.

The collision sent her into a coma, but the teen made it through -- and has been defying the odds and inspiring her community ever since.

9&10's Evan Dean and Photojournalist Tony Zyber were at Kate's homecoming today, and they have the story.
