Local Teen Loses Battle With Leukemia, Central Lake Community Mourns Her Loss

The Dean of Students at Central Lake High School says Maris Spaulding's fight against leukemia began about nine months ago. Before that, she played on multiple sports teams and was on the honor roll; always immersed in her school community.

The Dean tells us her family has an amazing faith, and perhaps that faith is what helped get Maris through several trips to DeVos Children's Hospital, in Grand Rapids, for treatment, while everyone here at home rallied around her.

The support they've given one another is what the school district, and this small community is leaning on today.

Visitation for Maris Spaulding will be next Friday night, December 7th, at Mortensen Funeral Home, in Central Lake, from 4:00-9:00. There will also be visitation next Saturday, at Central Lake High School, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

The funeral is next Saturday at 1:00 p.m., also at the high school.
