An attempted murder has left one woman in stable condition after a man shot her with a rifle.
It happened last night at 9:30 p.m. in the 8000 block of County Road in Rapid River Township.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the victim, Claudia Roberts, 60, lying on the floor suffering a gun shot wound.
The victim and relatives were able to tell police that a 61 year-old male neighbor had come to the home, kicked open the door, and shot the victim with a rifle as she attempted to run away.
Kalkaska Sheriff Deputies went to the suspect's home in the 8000 block of Priest Road to locate the suspect.
Evidence showed the suspect was home , deputies secured the home, and then were assisted by the Michigan State Police, Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Emergency Response Team, Michigan State Police Bomb Squad, and the Antrim County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect was arrested at approximately 5 a.m. after police entered the home with a search warrant.
The suspect has been charged with attempted murder and felony firearm.
The suspect was taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation and will be lodged at the Kalkaska County Jail pending arraignment.
