UPDATE: TCAPS Releases Name of Registered Sex Offender Left to Supervise Sports Team

Posted: Updated:

We can now tell you the name of the registered sex offender who was left to supervise a Traverse City elementary school basketball team.

Jared Buchner was left with the young team after the coach, his wife Jessica, left the gym.

The incident happened Friday after school at Cherry Knoll Elementary.

The TCAPS superintendent says the principal was at the gym from the start, so the 2nd and 3rd grade girls were never in danger.

The principal had an uneasy feeling about the coach's husband and checked his background, only to find out he was a registered sex offender.

Coach Buchner was fired immediately and parents were notified of the situation.

We've attached the letter that was sent out to TCAPS parents and staff.

The former coach has a child at the school, but her husband, the registered sex offender, has been told to contact the principal of Cherry Knoll before visiting the campus again.
