Shoe boxes Give Children a Merry Christmas

Posted: Updated:

For some a shoe box sounds like a disappointing Christmas gift, but for many children around the world, it is what will make their Christmas holiday special.

Saint Peters Lutheran Church in Big Rapids collected shoe boxes today for Operation Christmas Child.

Individuals are either given a shoe box, or can use their own, and fill it with gifts such as clothing, toys, shoes, and personal hygiene items for a child of a certain age and gender.

The shoe boxes are then sent off to countries in Africa, Asia, South America, and Eastern Europe where some of the neediest of children will receive the gifts.

Operation Christmas Child is run by Samaritan's Purse, a Christian organization.

Saint Peters hoped to collect over 2,000 shoe boxes today to send to the children.
