St. Francis comes from behind to advance to State Finals

BATTLE CREEK - Trailing two games to none in the Class C State Semifinal against Unionville-Sebewaing, the Traverse City St. Francis Gladiators came out swinging, winning the final three games to claim a thrilling 3-2 victory to advance to Saturday's State Championship match against Monroe St. Mary's Catholic Central.

The Glads started the third game on a 9-1 run, and ended up winning 25-19.  St. Francis won a hard-fought game four, 25-21.  And, after falling behind 5-1 early in the decisive fifth game, the Glads came back yet again, and prevailed 15-13 to claim the win.  Unionville-Sebewaing won game one, 25-23, and game two, 25-21.

Bridget Bussell recorded 28 kills and 4 aces to lead St. Francis.  Madeline Rysztak added 13 kills, and Sophie Spencer chipped in with 12 kills and 5 aces.

T.C. St. Francis and Monroe St. Mary's Catholic Central will duel for the Class C State Title at Noon on Saturday at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.
