Proper Burial Planned for 13-year-old Found Dead in Newaygo County

Posted: Updated:

The family of a 13-year-old girl, found dead after she snuck out of a friend's West Michigan home during a sleepover in 2004, are planning what they describe as a proper burial.

Investigators saved Amanda Lankey's skull and hands as evidence after her body was found in a section of Manistee National Forest in Big Prairie Township.

That's about 8 miles from her friend's White Cloud home.

She died from blunt force trauma to her head.

A person of interest in the case committed suicide in 2011.

Authorities charged two other people with lying to a Newaygo County prosecutor during the investigation.
