UPDATE: CMU Professor Faces Judge For Child Porn Case

Posted: Updated:

A Central Michigan University professor accused of having child pornography on a work computer faced a judge today for the first time.

William Merrill is charged with distributing child pornography, possessing child pornography, using a computer to commit a crime, and possessing a switchblade. A $500,000 bond was set.

Central Michigan University suspended Professor Merrill last week and then he resigned on Monday.

His research focused on Internet censorship and the use of children in advertising.

The court says Merrill didn't have a lawyer and didn't enter a plea deal. He will appear in court again on Thursday.
