Unexpected Pay Cuts for Kalkaska County Officials

Posted: Updated:

The local Sheriff and Prosecutor in one county are not happy about the pay cuts they say they did not see coming.

The Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners made the decision in late October about salaries for the two positions.

A meeting was held last night to reaffirm the motion, which would cause salary cuts of 12% for the Sheriff and 9% for the Prosecutor.

The cuts were in order to give the County Clerk, Register of Deeds, and Treasurer all a 6% raise, and bring salaries in line with each other.

One Kalkaska County Commissioner thinks that the pay cut is unfair. Others could not be reached for comment.

The Sheriff worries that this will have a long term effect on future county Sheriffs as well.
