Traverse City Student Wins U.S. Coast Guard Logo Contest

Posted: Updated:

The U.S. Coast Guard in Traverse City has a new logo thanks to the help of a local high school student.

Sarah Schade, a senior at Grand Traverse Academy, won the contest to design a logo for Air Station Traverse City.

Coast Guard officials and the school honored her with an assembly.

The design will be used for a patch on the air station's uniform and is already painted on the side of the hangar. The old logo had been in use for 17 years.

The air station selected the design from 18 entries submitted by high school students in the Grand Traverse area. At the assembly, Sarah was presented with the commanding officer's coin, a rare and prestigious honor.
