Mt. Pleasant Proposes Side Streets to Relieve Mission Street

Posted: Updated:

The city has several proposed side streets aiming to add alternative options to Mission Street and make getting off and on much easier.

Mt. Pleasant plans to cut into parking lots and work in between established buildings to place the side streets.

As Mission Street runs along Central Michigan University, there are long stretches with no intersections.

The new side streets would make it easier for students and residents to get across while keeping Mission clear for businesses.

Mission has been rated by MDOT as one of the most accident prone roads in the state and the city is working to wipe clean that long time negative image.

9&10's Eric Lloyd and photojournalist Jeff Blevins spoke with the city today and have more details.
