Michigan State Police Adding More State Troopers

Seventy eight new state troopers started working at posts across Michigan this week, including several in Northern Michigan.

A total of nine troopers were assigned to posts in Cadillac, Houghton Lake, and Alpena.

Two of the new recruits will work out of the detachment in Kalkaska.

Troopers say the new members will help them better protect the area.

The next recruiting class starts training in Lansing on Monday.

One post commander wants more troopers to replace those who have been lost in recent years.

He says it is too early to tell how many recruits will be assigned to northern Michigan.
