UPDATE: Police Searching for a Man in GT County, Tried to Abduct 14 Year Old Girl

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE:  People who use the Tart Trails are on high alert tonight, after an attempted abduction earlier this afternoon.

It's the third one in just two months.

Police are looking for a man they say tried to kidnap a 14-year-old girl around noon..

The young girl says a man tried to pull her into the woods near 3 Mile Road and Parsons in Grand Traverse County.

She says she managed to fend him off by biting him, but he chased her nearly a mile to the front of Keith J. Charter Traverse City State Park.

Tonight, local residents are concerned for their safety--taking the necessary precautions when using the trails.

Joyce Wright, a resident of Mitchell Creek Apartments says,

"I've always carried peppers spray, but I never have it out and ready.  But, I guess I'm going to have to learn to take it out of its case and keep it handy."

The man is being described as 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall.

Police say he's an older man, with blonde hair and a limp.

He was last seen wearing a gray pullover shirt with a breast pocket and blue jeans.

If you have any information on his whereabouts, you're asked to call the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department.
