Mecosta County Native and Army Sergeant has been Killed in Afghanistan

A Mecosta County native and Sergeant in the U.S. Army has been killed in Afghanistan.

Northern Michigan's News Leader learned early this morning that 30-year-old Sergeant Robert Billings died Saturday.

He was a 2001 graduate of Morley Standwood High School and still has family in the area.

Billings died from injuries suffered in an IED attack by enemy forces.

He joined the Army in 2003 and had done tours in Iraq, in 2009 and 2010.

He lived with his wife and four children in Clarksville, Virginia.
