Fall Businesses Hope to Overcome Cold & Wet Weather

Posted: Updated:

Our recent cold and wet weather isn't exactly the ideal combination for fall businesses.

Hoxsie's Farm Market in Grand Traverse County says fall tourism typically starts to pick up this month.

They're hoping for a busy few weeks -- especially because mother nature dealt a blow to their apple harvest this year.

The rain has made for a few slow days, but they're optimistic for the rest of the season.

"In reality -- pumpkin time has just started... if we end up with a halfway decent day, the place will be packed. The pumpkins and the U-pick operation and the corn maze really compliment what goes on here," said Denny Hoxsie, owner of the farm.

Fortunately, Hoxsie's Farm Market does have a way to make money when it's ugly outside.

They have an indoor shop that sells all kinds of fall treats.

9&10's Evan Dean and Photojournalist Jeff Blevins stopped by the farm today and have more on the fall tourism outlook.
