Keeping Kids Warm This Winter

Posted: Updated:

As the weather cools down we start to get out the winter gear from storage, but for some families it isn't that simple because they can't afford to keep warm in the winter.

The Salvation Army in Gaylord is on a mission to make sure children in Otsego County stay warm in the cold months of the year.

Starting bright and early this morning, they set up their annual Coats for Kids Drive in hopes of getting all kinds of gently used or brand new winter gear.

Last year they collected more that 1,500 coats and received more than $10,000 in donations.

They hope to beat that this year.

All of the collected coats will be available to needy families October 15th through the 17th at the Alpine plaza in Gaylord.

9&10's Jessica Dupnack and photojournalist Anthony Zyber were in Gaylord and have more on the growing demand for winter coats among needy families.
