New Airbags Could Be Unsafe

Posted: Updated:

If you replaced your car's airbag in the past 3 years, the new airbag could be an unsafe make.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a warning this week that counterfeit airbags pose a danger to drivers.

They used this demonstration video to show what can happen when a fake airbag is deployed in a crash.

Last month, authorities tested ten fake airbags seized as part of a criminal investigation.

All ten failed.

So far, there are no known injuries or deaths resulting from the counterfeits.

The NHTSA says only a very small number of vehicles may have fakes.

Drivers who suspect they may have a counterfeit airbag should visit the link to the left of the story.
