Woman Fends off Restaurant Robber

His plan failed --- and now, he's wanted by police.

Deputies say an armed man tried to rob The Bungalow Inn on the south end of Manistee just before 11:30 Friday night.

Employees at the restaurant stay in groups when locking up for the night.

On Friday, one of workers was just a few seconds ahead of the others when she left -- and that's all the time it took for the sudden attack.

The owner's mother was taking off for the night with the money bag.

Deputies say that's when the robber attacked her with pepper spray.

She fell to the ground but clutched onto the bag, crying for help until other employees came and scared the robber off.

K-9 units tracked him to a nearby school, but that's the last known trace of him.

Fortunately, the woman is doing well -- claiming victory in her late-night fight with the robber.

"Saturday night she came back into work -- she came up like this, saying 'I'm a fighter.' She's making it positive," said Emily Manke, who works at The Bungalow Inn.

The robber is described as wearing a dark-color hoodie with a design, or possibly writing on the back.

9&10's Evan Dean and Photojournalist Jake Johnson stopped by the restaurant today and have more on the attempted robbery.
