Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Genetic Counseling

Posted: Updated:

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Throughout the month on Thursdays here on 9&10 News at 5:00, we are partnering with VanDrie Home Furnishings to help people become aware of the disease, show you new advances in the fight against it and to share stories of survival.

Today, we meet a woman who's almost a gene detective, figuring out a patient's cancer risk and then helping them make important decisions.

Michelle Dunaway has the story from MidMichigan Medical Center.

For more information on genetic counseling and testing, call 989-839-6185 or visit the website to the left of the story.

To join the fight against this disease stop by VanDrie locations in Big Rapids, Cadillac, Traverse City, or Houghton Lake to drop off a donation for the American Cancer Society or visit their website at www.cancer.org. During the month of October VanDrie Home Furnishings is also donating a percentage of their sales to the American Cancer Society to help them in their quest to eliminate cancer.
