Suspicious Death Investigation in Emmet County

Posted: Updated:

Investigators are looking for clues after a suspicious death in Emmet County.

The Emmet County Sheriff believes Lyle Kopenkoskey's cause of death may be criminal in nature.

Kopenkoskey's family contacted police after he didn't show up for work, or come home, Tuesday.

They grew concerned when they found his pick-up truck unoccupied on Kiebel Road in Resort Township, not far from his house.

Multiple agencies helped search for Kopenkoskey, and around 12:30 a.m., Wednesday, found his body in a ditch near his truck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Emmet County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the suspicious death and are asking anyone with information to contact Det./Sgt. JL Sumpter at 231-439-8901.
