Budget Cuts in Montcalm County Means Cutting Back on Police Staffing

Posted: Updated:

Budget cuts in one local county means cutting back on around-the-clock patrols.

For the first time, the Montcalm County Sheriff's Office is not staffed 24 hours a day.

Montcalm County is facing a $733,000 deficit.

$345,000 is being taken from the sheriff's department budget.

A .6 mill proposal that would generate about $971,000 a year for 2 years is on the November ballot.
