Thousands of Dollars Raised to Put iPads in the Hands of Autistic TCAPS Students

Posted: Updated:

A few months ago, Brandy Wheeler's dream was to raise money to buy iPads for students at TCAPS with autism. When TCAPS started a Partners in Education program encouraging the community to get involved with the district, she was one of the first to chip in.

She hosted a Scavenger Hunt for Autism around downtown Traverse City. After the final tally, Brandy alone raised nearly $15,000. TCAPS has additional donations from their program.

Brandy's son is autistic, so she knows the struggles students face. So today, she delivered 13 iPads to TCAPS all purchased with the money raised.

Reporting in Traverse City, Sara Simnitch and Photojournalist, Jeremy Erickson.
