"The National Writers Series" started a new program for area high school students.
It's called "Front Street Writers" and is meant to teach creative writing to local high school students.
Tonight, was the ribbon cutting for their new work-space.
Students from TCAPS and surrounding school districts can submit writing samples.
If selected, the program becomes part of their daily class schedule.
Students meet with each other to critique each others work and learn methods for creative story telling.
They will also have the opportunity to learn from the authors brought to Traverse City through the "National Writers Series."
"You can't go wrong if you're a good writer, no matter what you do later. So, hopefully some of our students will be back here in the National Writers Series as authors and some of them will go on to their other professions and just take their writing skills with them," says Kerrey Woughter, the Co-Director for Front Street Writers.
There are still eight slots available for next semester.
Submissions can be made through the TCAPS website.
