Man Accused of Horse Neglect in GT County, Expected to Turn Self In

Posted: Updated:

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Department discovered two horses last month - malnourished and neglected.

It happened in Mayfield Township. A mare and a pony were found on the loose.

The horses are now in good care at Horse North Rescue, and police have identified their previous owner.

The horses had not had any medical attention, and were severely underweight.

A Horse North Rescue volunteer tells us they still have more weight to gain, but they're on the right track.

The owner has not yet been arrested, but is expected to turn himself in either today or tomorrow.
