New Report: Northern Michigan Could See Major Growth in Agriculture

Posted: Updated:

A new report projects major growth in the state's agriculture industry.

The Michigan Agri-Business Association report expects crop yields to increase. It says cash crops like corn and soybeans will be behind much of the growth.

Corn production in Michigan is projected to increase more than 60 percent by 2025. Soybeans are expected to see a nearly 50 percent increase.

Farmers and landowners in northern Michigan could see a big part of that growth as the need for land increases.

The MSU Extension in Osceola County expects slow and steady growth. The office says grain price will likely go down with a couple strong growing years.
