UPDATE: Manistee County Suspect Surrenders

Posted: Updated:

4:00pm UPDATE: Our reporter on scene told us the suspect surrendered around 2:30 this afternoon from a heavily wooded area on the boarder of Lake, Mason and Manistee Counties, just south of Wellston. Police had a 10 square mile perimeter surrounding the suspect starting around 10:00 this morning. He is expected to be arraigned tomorrow.

2:50pm UPDATE: We just got word that the suspect has been caught just across the county line in Lake County.

2:30pm UPDATE: The "Secure Mode" has been lifted for the Manistee Schools.

All Manistee schools were in "Secure Mode" because of a criminal sexual conduct situation that happened in the area yesterday.

When Police responded to a home for a criminal sexual conduct complaint the 53-year-old suspect fled in his car with a gun.

The suspect was contacted by Police via cellphone during the search for him. He later turned himself in and arrested without incident.

The school was in "Secure Mode" just for precautionary measures.
