The Charlevoix County Police Department has received numerous reports of phone scams happening in the area.
One in particular deals with a phone call from someone who is posing as a collections company. They tell you that money is owed and ask for personal account numbers and information.
The other scam advises you that a family member is in trouble or was involved in a bad accident and needs your money sent to them.
Police want to remind you to always check with you local law enforcement about these situations, especially before you send any money. Several people have already sent thousands of dollars and the whole situation was not true and the victim of the scam did not recover their money.
The Charlevoix County Police Department says there are many forms of telephone, mail and e-mail scams and to never give out your personal account numbers or information.
