Mount Pleasant Man Faces Felony Charges for Attacking Officer

Posted: Updated:

A Mount Pleasant man accused of assaulting a 4 year old boy whose charred remains were recovered a week after he went missing faces felony charges for attacking corrections officers.

20 year old Anthony Bennett faces two counts each of assaulting a prison employee and assaulting, resisting or obstructing police.

Court documents say Bennett was involved in a dispute with a fellow prisoner while lodged in the Bay County Jail Aug. 24 that resulted in him swinging at an officer, knocking him down and punching him three times in the face and neck.

Bennett also faces federal charges of assaulting 4 year old Carnel Chamberlain.

Bennett hasn't been charged in the death of Carnel, whose body was found June 28 under his house on the Saginaw Chippewa Indian reservation near Mount Pleasant.
