Citizens Bank Robber Still on the Loose

Posted: Updated:

Police say a man robbed a Northern Michigan bank this morning -- and hasn't been seen since.

Now, State Police and the F.B.I. are teaming up to try to track down the robber.

It's a story we've been following since it broke, both on the air and online.

Police say the robbery happened at about 10:15 this morning at the Citizens Bank just north of Cadillac.

That's near the intersection of Boon Road and North Mitchell Street.

"Subject entered the Citizens Bank... went to a teller and demanded money. The suspect then left the bank on foot," said Lt. David Street.

He hasn't been spotted since crossing the grassy area behind the bank.

Police are using search dogs and fingerprinting the bank, but maybe their best piece of evidence -- is a surveillance photo of the suspect.

And it's not the only video that could help detectives track down the robber.

"This is an area where there are several business. And a lot of the business have video... So we have people that are canvassing the area, contacting all the business owners, trying to see if there's any additional video," said Lt. Street.

Until he's caught, businesses in the area are left wondering what could happen after this daring robbery.

"If he's that bold -- then he's bold enough to do something that would hurt someone, too," said Stephanee Jameson, who manages a nearby business.

The robbery even forced local schools to go into "Secure Mode" for a few hours, as a precaution.

Police aren't yet saying if the robber used a weapon -- but we know, fortunately, no one was hurt during the alarming crime.

Here's a description of the robber: he's a white male, 40 to 50 years old.

About six feet tall, with an average build, short hair and a goatee.

He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, with a blue undershirt and blue jeans, dark shoes, sunglasses, and a camo baseball cap.

If you have any information, call the State Police post at 231-779-6040.

Citizens Bank wouldn't talk on camera, but released a statement saying their primary concern is the safety of their employees.

9&10's Evan Dean and Photojournalist Jake Johnson were on the scene minutes after the crime happened.

They have the story.
