Federal jury found man guilty of murdering and sexually assaulting his 3-month-old daughter.

The incident happened on a Northern Michigan Indian reservation.

A U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids convicted Steven Deuman of first degree murder, which carries a mandatory penalty of life in prison without parole.

The baby girl died August 12, 2011, on the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indian Reservation, where she live with her mother and father, Steven Deuman.

An autopsy showed that she died from asphyxiation.

Defense lawyer Richard Stroba says the death was accidental and Deuman wouldn't harm his children.

During the trial witnesses said Deuman sexually abused them while they were children.
