Each year dozens of exchange students from around the world come to Northern Michigan to experience life in the Midwest.
Seventeen of them will attend Traverse City West High School in Grand Traverse County to spend a full high school year.
One of those students is 15 year old Pia who made the trip from her town of 80,000 people in Germany to live with a host family.
So far, the transition has been smooth but it does have some challenges.
9&10's Jessica Dupnack and photojournalist Corey Adkins got to know Pia and her host family and have more on what life is like for her living in the States.
