A local non-profit that works with victims of child abuse says the problem is getting worse.
There are warning signs you can watch for. Counselors at the Oasis Family Resource Center in Cadillac say parents often notice behavioral changes in older children and possibly nightmares. Changes in eating habits, sleeping patterns, or signs a child is in pain can also indicate abuse.
Oasis has recently seen a spike in the number of reported child abuse cases. The non-profit thinks children returning to school with teachers who are required to report abuse may be part of the reason.
If you suspect a child is being abused, contact the Department of Human Services or police.
