One-Year-Old in Critical Condition, Caretaker in Jail

Cadillac Police tell us a 1-year-old is in critical condition and his caretaker is in jail.
9-1-1 got a call last Tuesday saying the child was not breathing at a home on the 700 block of South Mitchell.
He was taken to Mercy Hospital then airlifted to Grand Rapids.
The next day, police and Child Protective Services were told this could be a case of abuse, and the 24-year-old caretaker was arrested Wednesday afternoon.
The caretaker, Andrew Basinski, is the boyfriend of the child's mother.
He is accused of 3 separate incidents of abuse against the child.
Police believe the child has been abused by the man several times.
The child remains hospitalized in critical condition.
