80-Year-Old Barn Burns to Ground in Osceola County

A massive barn fire sent nearly one hundred bales of hay up in smoke.

The 80-year-old barn caught fire just after 4:00 PM in Sears, near M-66 in Osceola County.

M-66 was closed between 1 and 2 Mile roads, while firefighters fought the flames.

The owner tells 9 and 10 News that he believes it started accidentally, after he used a grinder inside the barn.

The barn was full of nearly one hundred round bales of hay that helped the fire spread quickly.

More than a dozen fire departments from five surrounding counties responded to help fight the fire and aid with bringing water.

Evart's assistant fire chief says they could use up to 3-million gallons of water on the hay before the night is over.
