1:30 pm UPDATE: Police say Jeffrey Johnson shot and killed vice president of Hazan Import, Steven Ercolino. Hazan Import is the company that Johnson was laid off at a year ago.
11:45 am UPDATE: New York City officials say 53-year-old Jeffrey Johnson opened fire with a .45-caliber pistol on Fifth Avenue.
Police in New York City say 8 people were wounded, and 2 people died, including the shooter.
Police say the violence stemmed from a workplace dispute. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the gunman was fired from his job a year ago from a company in the Empire State Building.
Nine others were hit by gunfire, including some that could have possibly been from police bullets.
The condition of those injured is unknown at this time but are expected to survive.
