Feedback at 5:00- New Speed Monitoring Device

Posted: Updated:

Grand Traverse County introduced a new speed monitoring device that not only tracks how fast you're going, but it can also take your picture if you're going too fast.

If you're going faster than 15 miles per hour, your image will be captured on camera.

The radar is portable and can be attached to any speed limit sign in the county, giving the Sheriff's Department an extra set of eyes on the road.

The Sheriff's department says it won't use the pictures to issue tickets. But the pictures could be used to look for habitual speeders, and data from the radar will be used to adjust traffic patrols.

A grant from Triple-A helped the county afford the new radar-camera.

For today's "Feedback at Five" we ask, do you think this is a useful policing tool that could deter speeding or is it too invasive?
