Controversial State Bill Could Mean Big Changes for Teacher's Benefits

A controversial state bill would mean big benefit changes for public school employees.

The Michigan Senate just approved a bill to eliminate health coverage in retirement for new workers.

It would also cap the amount that school districts have to contribute to current retirement plans, asking employees to chip in more for their pensions.

The bill isn't law yet -- a version of it was previously passed by the State House.

They're expected to approve the Senate measure.

Then, it would go to Governor Snyder's desk for final approval.

9&10's Evan Dean spoke to a superintendent in Mason County today.

He has more details on how this bill could affect the state of education in Michigan.
