Voters Approve Drug Officer Millage in Oscoda County

Posted: Updated:

Taxpayers are stepping up in one local county to help in the fight against drugs.

A voter-approved millage will cover the cost to add an officer to a local drug team.

The officer will focus on Oscoda County and will also work as a liaison with the schools. They will be the only member of the S.T.I.N.G. narcotics team whose salary is funded by a millage. Most get funded from state and local grants and are based in bigger cities.

Funding from the millage becomes available on January first and lasts for four years. The sheriff says it may take some time before Oscoda County sees the impact.

9 and 10's Kyle Mitchell and photojournalist Jacob Johnson have more on what it could mean for the community.
