Jim Bardenhagen's Leelanau apple crop is hit and miss this year depending on where you're standing in his orchard. The March warm up wasn't a good thing for many varieties, but it treated the tart Ginger Gold's pretty well.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, other growers in Leelanau County are also at work on harvesting early; but, not all growers in our region will be so lucky. Both the location and the variety of the apple play a big role in how the fruit withstands the elements.
