Eight Michigan Counties Found Fatal Viral Disease in Deer

Posted: Updated:

A disease that can damage the deer population has been confirmed in 8 Michigan counties.

One deer has died from Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease, better known as EHD in Ionia County.

Other cases of the disease have been confirmed in several others, including Montcalm County.

EHD is known to cause extensive internal bleeding in deer and is often transmitted by a type of biting fly.

The DNR reminds hunters that the counties containing the affected deer will most likely have less deer in the area, but numbers should rebound in a few years.
