Soybeans Thrive With Recent Rains

Posted: Updated:

The recent rain storms have actually saved the Northern Michigan soybean crop from the same fate as apples, cherries or corn.

In Isabella County, near Shepherd, farmers have seen four inches of rain in the past week, enough to get the beans through the season.

Now farmers are seeing a near bumper crop emerge as the soybeans soak up the recent rain and sprout new beans.

Corn was killed during the worst of the drought when it was flowering, soybeans bloom later and continue to flower throughout the summer.
