Some Outfitters Seeing Business Boost on Local Rivers

Posted: Updated:

Some canoe and kayak outfitters in northern Michigan say they are paddling into greater profits.

The owner of Chippewa Landing near Manton says he is surprised by the growth every year.

The growing popularity of adventure sports and the state's Pure Michigan advertising campaign could be behind much of the increase. Some outfitters are only seeing an average year so far but many have seen major growth over the past decade.

The Cadillac Area Visitors Bureau says paddle sports bring in people from across the country to the area. Each overnight stay generates between $60 and $125 dollars per person for the local economy.

9 and 10's Kyle Mitchell and photojournalist Jeff Blevins have more on business on the rivers.
