UPDATE: Teenager w/ Downs Syndrome Now Allowed to Play Football

Posted: Updated:

The Michigan High School Athletic Association says this Upper Peninsula teenager can suit up with his football team this season.

It's a story 9and10 News has been following closely.

Eric Dompierre has downs syndrom and has drawn national attention when he was told he couldn't play because of his age.

Eric turned 19 back in January and will be a senior this fall.

He was held back in Kindergarden because of his disability.

MHSSAA rules state you cannot take part in High School Athletics if you turn 19 before September first.

He was granted a waiver--meaning he will now be allowed to play as an extra point kicker.
