Recount Petition Filed for Wexford County Prosecutor

Posted: Updated:

9&10 News received a statement from Jason Elmore about the petition for a recount that was filed today. We also attached the petition for recount.

Jason Elmore's statement: "I have filed with the Wexford County Clerk my petition for recount of all 20 precincts. Attached is an unsigned copy of the petition filed.

I have received stories of:

1.       Ballot problems with people attempting to split ballots

2.       Attempting to feed ballots and uncertain if the machine accepted it

3.       One person appeared that her precinct closed early

4.       One person reported that at another precinct the ballot machine was open and staffers working the station were busy fixing some problem

5.       One person reported that the markers at the polling station barely worked

I have been urged by several voters to request a recount. I have received an overwhelming number of comments on the street, email, phone calls, texts, and other communications urging me to file the petition. I believe a recount is important because of the closeness of the election. I also believe that a recount is owed to those who supported me in running a clean and positive campaign. A recount will not take any significant time or resources. Voting is the essential right and foundation of our democratic society. Certainly, Mr. Badovinac should oppose a simple recount. Upon the filing, the clerk is responsible for issuing a copy to the opponent and bureau of elections with the secretary of state."
