Dean Foods Lays Off Employees

Posted: Updated:

Major concern after a local business announced it will lay off nearly a quarter of its workforce.

Forty five Dean Foods employees are out of a job by the end of the month.  Now, many worry what this means for the future of the City of Evart in Osceola County.

It's a decision that comes after a loss of business from Meijer opening their own dairy facilities. Evart built a large sewer system specifically for Dean Foods when they came to town.

Now, with less production coming from the Dean Foods facility residents will see a 16% increase in their sewer bills.

Changes on the way that will affect the entire community.

A statement from Dean Food's to 9&10 News:

"Unfortunately, due to some recent volume losses at the plant, we recently informed 45 employees and their union business agent that their jobs are being eliminated in mid-August. We regret the impact that this decision will have on our employees and the Evart community. The decision to eliminate jobs in any part of our business is never an easy one. "
