How to Protect Yourself in the Great Lakes: Man drowns in Benzie County

Posted: Updated:

High waves and powerful currents are blamed for four deaths on Lake Michigan over the weekend.

One man died at this Benzie county beach.

Kevin Schlake and his brother-in-law went in the water to rescue two boys...his nephews.

He managed to save one before being swept out by a rip current and drowning.

His brother-in-law survived and managed to save the other boy.

The drowning occurred just before five last night along the Benzie County Lakeshore near Frankfort.

9 and 10's Kyle Mitchelle is live with our top story on the danger of rip currents.
