Antrim County's Torch Lake Township Turns to Millage for Road Repairs

Posted: Updated:

Torch Lake Township officials call Birchview Drive their worst road. Bill Stevenson has lived there for more than 30 years. He says each spring, large potholes are patched and repaired right by his driveway.

Tomorrow, Torch Lake Township is turning to people like Stevenson to pass a millage to fix their roads. They're asking for a quarter of a mill. Torch Lake Township officials say a quarter of a mill would cost a homeowner of a $200,000 home about $50 a year.

The Township Supervisor says for the last three years, they have set aside more than $50,000 to repair Birchview Drive, and the County usually helps out. This year, they just don't have the money to share.

If the millage passes, Birchview Drive, and other Township roads will have the green light for some much needed TLC.
