Michigan Department of Education Releases School District Report Cards

Posted: Updated:

For Kingsley Superintendent, Keith Smith, it's a good day. The Michigan Department of Education ranked two of his schools in the top 5% statewide. TCAPS highest ranking was Old Mission Peninsula School at 82.

The list is based on how students achieve over time. New this year is the school status. Priority Schools are the bottom 5% of schools, meaning they need to set a plan for improvement. Focus schools are 10% of schools with the largest achievement gap where some kids are achieving, and others are falling behind. TCAPS' Eastern Elementary is now a Focus school. Reward schools like Kingsley are the top 5%. All part of the "No Child Left Behind" flexibility agreement.

Even with budget struggles at many area districts, Kingsley wants to stay on the right track.
